Serenity Acres is continuing to grow and expand in the Maryland addiction treatment community. This growth means that we will be able to help even more addicts and alcoholics to recover! We are very excited about this, and would like to share some of the local and national attention that has helped Serenity achieve this growth.
- The Baltimore Sun: “Maryland drug overdose deaths exceed last year’s grim tally.” This article, published at the end of 2016, highlights the ever-increasing fatal overdoses in the state of Maryland last year. Our own Brad Masters, Director of Outreach, was interviewed in the article as a local addiction expert. Brad discussed the stigma of addiction, noting that “There has been a lot of stigma attached to what an addict is and who it affects. The truth is that it affects everyone.” In the article, Brad shared a bit of his own journey with addiction and recovery, and emphasizes the need for society as a whole to begin viewing addiction as a disease and not a moral failing.
- ABC News: “Man overcomes addiction, works to help others do the same at Serenity Acres.“ In a nationally-featured news story, Serenity Acres’ Director of Outreach again shared his own journey of addiction and recovery. The article also highlights Serenity Acres, and what sets us apart. It mentions our focu on dual diagnosis and holistic treatments, and unparalleled amount of one-on-one time with addiction and mental health counselors. Serenity’ continued growth is mentioned, with 55 beds and increasing as of the end of 2016- not to mention the most important fact, of the more than 1500 clients we have treated since opening just 6 years ago.
- Massage Magazine: “The Rewarding Work of Massage for Addiction Recovery.” One of Serenity Acres’ key offerings is massage therapy, and our own Shannon Scearce was featured in Massage Magazine online, discussing the benefits of massage therapy for recovering addicts. The article highlights the ways in which massage can be beneficial for those in recovery, particularly in terms of pain management and a safe space.
- ABC News: “Tips for protecting yourself and family from addiction.” In this video featured on ABC2 for the InFocus segment, our own David Semanco, Clinical Director of Serenity Acres, joins a conversation on how to protect yourself and your family from addiction.
We will continue to share “Serenity Acres in the News” as stories come out! But while the media presence speaks to Serenity Acres’ position as a leader in the Maryland treatment community, our biggest sense of pride comes from our clients. Our clients are the reason we are here- seeing them recover and regain a sense of hope and purpose, is the best kind of success we could ask for, and we hope to continue helping as many people as possible.
