Dual Diagnosis Treatment and Co-occurring Disorders
Dual Diagnosis, also referred to as a co-occurring disorder, occurs when an individual has an addiction issue as well as a mental health diagnosis or symptoms. Both the addiction and mental health issue have their unique symptoms that may get in the way of someone’s ability to function, handle life’s difficulties, and relate to others. We treat many patients with co-occurring disorders such as bi-polar, depression and many others. A co-occurring disorder or dual diagnosis requires an integrated care plan in order to address both conditions simultaneously.
At Serenity Acres, clients work with both addiction and mental health professionals to achieve this goal. Each client receives a comprehensive assessment and is referred to our psychiatrists for additional care if indicated. Research demonstrates that treating addiction and other issues that come with it separately does not support favorable outcomes. Our treatment includes traditional and holistic therapies that will allow each patient to develop skills to manage their unique needs and challenges.
